Arctic warming contributes to increase in Northeast Pacific marine heatwave days over the past decades

چکیده

Abstract The frequency and duration of marine heatwaves have been increasing with ocean warming due to climate change. In particular, the Northeast Pacific has experienced intense extensive since late 1990s – characteristically called “the Blob”. Here, an investigation satellite-derived reanalysis data supported by idealized coupled model experiments show that Arctic plays important role in increase heatwave days during boreal summers. Strong acted change atmospheric circulation pattern over reduce low-level cloud fraction from spring early summer. We enhancement solar radiative heat fluxes reduced latent loss a relatively large area favored sea surface temperatures days. An experiment performed here, designed isolate impact warming, supports this hypothesis. projected changes on occurrence should be considered adaptation mitigation plans.

Breast cancer in the Arctic – changes over the past decades

The purpose of this study is to review the current literatures on breast cancer (BC) in the Arctic, especially the trends in incidence during the last decades and the possible explanations. The design of this study is a literature review. The scientific literature concerning BC were reviewed, especially focusing on the Arctic and the special conditions that exist in this region. Northeast Siberian ice wedges confirm Arctic winter warming over the past two millennia

15 Arctic climate has experienced major changes over the past millennia that are not fully 16 understood in terms of their controls and seasonality. Stable-data from ice wedges in 17 permafrost provide unique information on past winter climate. Recently, an ice-wedge 18 record from the Lena River Delta suggested for the first time that Siberian winter 19 temperatures increased throughout the Ho...

Arctic Ocean surface warming trends over the past 100 years

[1] Ocean temperature profiles and satellite data have been analyzed for summertime sea surface temperature (SST) and upper ocean heat content variations over the past century, with a focus on the Arctic Ocean peripheral seas. We find that many areas cooled up to 0.5 C per decade during 1930–1965 as the Arctic Oscillation (AO) index generally fell, while these areas warmed during 1965–1995 as t...

Influence of North Pacific decadal variability on the western Canadian Arctic over the past 700 years

Understanding how internal climate variability influences arctic regions is required to better forecast future global climate variations. This paper investigates an annually-laminated (varved) record from the western Canadian Arctic and finds that the varves are negatively correlated with both the instrumental Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) during the past century and also with reconstructed...

Diminished Response of Arctic Plants to Warming over Time

The goal of this study is to determine if the response of arctic plants to warming is consistent across species, locations and time. This study examined the impact of experimental warming and natural temperature variation on plants at Barrow and Atqasuk, Alaska beginning in 1994. We considered observations of plant performance collected from 1994-2000 "short-term" and those from 2007-2012 "long...
